Disney Destiny Cruise Review: A Day-by-Day Family Adventure to Castaway Cay & Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

We recently set sail aboard the brand-new Disney Destiny for an unforgettable Disney Cruise Line vacation filled with beautiful ocean views, incredible entertainment, delicious dining, and magical family memories. From relaxing sea days to exploring Disney’s private island destinations — Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point — this sailing was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

In this Disney Destiny cruise trip report, we’re sharing our full experience day by day, including our pre-cruise stay in Fort Lauderdale, embarkation day, stateroom tour, onboard dining, entertainment, pool deck fun, adult spaces, island excursions, and plenty of Disney cruise tips along the way.

Whether you’re planning your first Disney Cruise Line vacation, researching the Disney Destiny, or deciding between Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, we hope this detailed cruise blog helps you know exactly what to expect before you sail!

Day 1 – Arrival in Fort Lauderdale Before Our Disney Destiny Cruise

Our Disney Destiny adventure officially began the day before embarkation when we flew into Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Since we wanted a relaxing start to the trip without worrying about transportation, we booked a stay at the Hyatt House Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port — and it ended up being such a convenient choice for a pre-cruise hotel stay.

One of the best parts? The hotel offered a free airport shuttle, and the ride from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was only about 5–10 minutes. After a travel day, it was so nice to quickly grab our luggage, hop on the shuttle, and be checked into our room in almost no time.

Our hotel room was surprisingly spacious and perfect for relaxing before cruise day. We dropped off our bags, freshened up a bit, and headed out to explore the area around the hotel.

Right next door was Dania Pointe, a huge open-air shopping, dining, and entertainment area just minutes from the airport and Port Everglades. The location honestly could not have been more convenient for a pre-cruise stay.

For dinner, we stopped at Skinny Louie, a classic burger spot known for smash burgers, fries, and a laid-back atmosphere. It was exactly the kind of easy, casual dinner we wanted after a long travel day.

After dinner, we spent some time walking around Dania Pointe, taking in the warm Florida evening and exploring the shops, lights, and lively atmosphere. It really set the tone for vacation mode.

Eventually, we headed back to the hotel to get some rest because the next morning was embarkation day aboard the brand-new — and we could hardly wait!

Hyatt House Fort Lauderdale

Day 2: Embarkation Day on Disney Destiny from Port Everglades

Breakfast at Hyatt House Fort Lauderdale

We started the morning at Hyatt House Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port and enjoyed their complimentary breakfast before heading to Port Everglades.

The hotel offered a decent variety of breakfast items, but honestly, we tried not to eat too much because we were saving room for all the incredible food onboard Disney Destiny.

Before leaving the hotel, I attached our official Disney Cruise Line luggage tags to all of our suitcases and removed any old airline tags from previous trips. This definitely helps make the luggage drop process much smoother once you arrive at the cruise terminal.

Lyft to Port Everglades

When we were ready, we requested a Lyft to Port Everglades.

The drive took about 15 minutes and cost around $24 total. Once we arrived at the Disney Cruise Line terminal, we handed our luggage over to the porter and headed inside to begin the embarkation process.

Port Everglades Disney Cruise Port Embarkation

Tips for a Smooth Disney Cruise Embarkation:

  • Arrive early at Port Everglades: Give yourself plenty of time for security and check-in — arriving 1 hour before your boarding window helps reduce stress.

  • Bring all documents: Make sure you have your passport or government-issued ID, boarding pass, and luggage tags.

  • Check luggage guidelines: Disney Cruise Line offers porters who deliver your luggage directly to your stateroom, so pack a carry-on with essentials like swimsuits, sunscreen, and medications. We usually just take our luggage with us.

  • Use the Disney Cruise app: Download the app to access daily schedules, deck maps, and onboard activities.

  • Enjoy pre-boarding perks: Take advantage of boarding photos, character meet-and-greets, and the first cone of free ice cream!

  • Have your health forms ready: Complete any online health questionnaires that are required.

  • Plan your first day: Decide whether you want to explore the ship, enjoy the pool deck, or grab lunch at Cabanas as soon as you board.

  • Pack your magic: Don’t forget Disney ears, autograph books, and cameras to capture every special moment.

Disney Cruise Line Embarkation Process

We were assigned Boarding Group 6.

At first, the line looked extremely long, but Disney Cruise Line had the entire process moving very efficiently. From entering the terminal to completing check-in and security, everything only took about 20 to 30 minutes total.

After check-in, we waited in the seating area until our boarding group was called. Disney displays the current boarding groups on large screens throughout the terminal, making it very easy to know when it is your turn to board the ship.

Boarding Disney Destiny

Then came one of the best moments of any Disney Cruise vacation: walking onto the ship for the very first time.

As we entered the stunning Grand Hall aboard Disney Destiny, we could not wait to hear our family name announced. The theming, lighting, artwork, and atmosphere were absolutely breathtaking.

Disney Destiny truly feels beautiful the moment you step onboard.

Disney Destiny

Lunch at Marceline Market

Our first stop onboard was Marceline Market for lunch.

The food selection was incredible and there were so many options that it was honestly hard to decide what to try first. From fresh salads and comfort foods to desserts and quick bites, everything looked amazing.

The dessert section especially stood out and quickly reminded us why Disney Cruise Line dining is so popular.

Oceaneer Club Open House

After lunch, we headed over to the Oceaneer Club Open House so we could fully explore the immersive kids club spaces onboard Disney Destiny.

Disney really went above and beyond with the design and storytelling throughout these areas. Every room felt interactive, creative, and incredibly detailed.

The kids absolutely loved exploring all the themed spaces.

Exploring the Pool Deck

Next, we made our way to the pool deck where the kids went swimming while we continued exploring the ship.

Disney Destiny is absolutely stunning. The artwork, décor, lighting, and small details throughout the ship make it feel incredibly immersive. Everywhere we turned, there was something new to notice.

Our Disney Destiny Verandah Stateroom 10098

Around 1:30 PM, staterooms officially opened and we headed to our room for the cruise.

We stayed in Verandah Stateroom 10098, a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah that sleeps up to four guests.

Disney Destiny Stateroom Tour: 10098

This was our first time staying on Deck 10 aboard a Disney Cruise ship. While we typically prefer Decks 7 through 9, we still enjoyed the location overall.

Since the room is located below the pool deck, we occasionally heard lounge chairs moving above us while sitting outside on the verandah. However, inside the stateroom it was perfectly quiet and never became a major issue.

The stateroom itself felt spacious and very functional for a family cruise. There was plenty of closet space, storage for clothing, room under the bed for suitcases, and a small refrigerator drawer for drinks and snacks.

The couch converts into a bed and an additional bunk pulls down from the ceiling at night, which your stateroom host prepares for you during evening turndown service.

One of our favorite Disney Cruise Line features is the split bathroom design. Having separate sink and toilet/shower areas makes getting ready so much easier for families. The shower room also included a small bathtub, which is especially convenient for younger children.

We also loved the automatic nightlight feature in the toilet room.

And of course, the private verandah gave us beautiful ocean views throughout the cruise.

Decorating Our Disney Cruise Door

As soon as we got settled into our stateroom, I decorated our Disney Cruise Line door with one of my viral cruise door banner designs.

I absolutely love adding personalized decorations to our stateroom door because it makes it so much easier to find your room in the hallways and adds an extra layer of fun to the cruise experience.

If you are looking for Disney Cruise door decorations, personalized cruise magnets, or editable cruise door banners for your own sailing, you can find my designs in my Etsy shop here: Adventure By Roberta on Etsy

Dinner at 1923

After unpacking and getting settled, we changed for dinner and headed to our first rotational dining restaurant of the cruise: 1923.

The restaurant felt elegant, classic, and beautifully themed. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. It was the perfect first dinner onboard Disney Destiny.

Broadway-Style Show and Movie Under the Stars

To finish off embarkation day, we attended one of Disney Cruise Line’s Broadway-style stage shows before ending the night on the pool deck watching a Disney movie under the stars.

It truly felt like the perfect first day onboard Disney Destiny.

Day 3: Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on Disney Destiny

One of the most exciting days of our Disney Destiny cruise had finally arrived: our day at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in The Bahamas.

Watching Disney Destiny dock at Disney Cruise Line’s newest private island destination was such an incredible experience. The bright turquoise water, white sand beaches, and tropical scenery were absolutely stunning first thing in the morning.

Breakfast at Marceline Market

Before heading off the ship, we stopped at Marceline Market for breakfast.

The breakfast buffet onboard Disney Destiny quickly became one of our favorite parts of the cruise. There were so many options available, from fresh fruit and pastries to hot breakfast items and made-to-order favorites. We tried not to eat too much because we knew we would also be enjoying lunch on the island later in the day.

Arriving at Disney Lookout Cay

After breakfast, we returned to our stateroom to grab our beach bags, sunscreen, and towels before heading off the ship.

One thing to know before visiting Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is that there is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the ship to the island area. The walk is beautiful and scenic, but Disney also provides a tram to help guests reach the main beach area more quickly.

Pro Tip for Lookout Cay

When you exit the tram, make sure to grab towels immediately.

This is the main towel pickup location on the island, and you do not want to walk all the way back later to grab them.

Top Attractions & Activities at Lookout Cay

  • Rush Out, Gush Out Water Play: A family-friendly water play area with slides, fountains, and splash pads.

  • Sebastian's Cove: A supervised splash area for toddlers and young children.

  • Family beach: The main beach area for families.

  • Disney Fun in the Sun Beach Bash: A family-focused event with games and activities hosted by Disney characters.

  • Goombay Cultural Center: A pavilion to learn about Bahamian culture through music and dance, including Junkanoo.

  • Play Play Pavilion: A pavilion with games for children of all ages.

  • Serenity Bay: Escape to this peaceful, adults-only beach, where you can relax in a hammock, soak up the sun, and enjoy the ultimate tranquil island retreat.

  • The Nature Trail: Wander along this scenic beach trail, perfect for exploring the island’s natural beauty, spotting wildlife, and discovering hidden coves along the shoreline.

Family Beach Time at Lookout Cay

Once we arrived at the family beach area, we found some beach chairs and headed straight for the water.

The beaches at Disney Lookout Cay are absolutely beautiful. The sand was soft, the water was crystal clear, and the entire island felt peaceful and relaxing.

One of our favorite things we did was take a nature walk along the beach all the way to the small cave area at the far end of the shoreline. The views were incredible and it felt much quieter away from the main beach area.

Rush Out Gush Out Water Play Area

The kids spent a lot of time enjoying Rush Out Gush Out, the family water play area at Lookout Cay.

This area features splash zones, water activities, and smaller waterslides that are perfect for younger kids and families looking to cool off during the day.

Lunch at Lookout Cay

Before we knew it, it was already lunchtime.

Lunch at Disney Lookout Cay was honestly one of our favorite meals of the cruise. The island BBQ offered so much variety with grilled foods, fresh sides, salads, fruit, desserts, and Bahamian-inspired options.

Everything tasted fresh and there were plenty of choices for both kids and adults.

Viral Disney Cruise Dessert

Of course, I had to try making the viral Disney Cruise cookie ice cream sandwich dessert.

It was delicious, but the Bahamian heat caused it to melt almost immediately. Definitely worth trying though.

Sebastian’s Cove Kids Club

After lunch, we spent more time exploring the island while the kids enjoyed Sebastian’s Cove, the supervised kids club area at Lookout Cay.

Disney did such a great job creating spaces for families while still keeping the island natural and relaxing.

Back Onboard Disney Destiny

Eventually, it was time to head back to Disney Destiny and get ready for dinner.

The kids wanted to head straight back to the Oceaneer Club while we enjoyed a relaxing cocktail before dinner.

Worlds of Marvel Rotational Dining Disney Cruise

Worlds of Marvel Dinner Experience

Tonight’s rotational dining restaurant was Worlds of Marvel.

This interactive Marvel-themed dinner experience was so much fun. The meal included games, themed entertainment, interactive moments during dinner, and fun menu selections that kept everyone entertained the entire evening.

Shopping and Evening Entertainment

After dinner, we spent some time shopping onboard Disney Destiny before heading to the theater for the evening show.

By the end of the night, we were completely exhausted in the best possible way. It was such a fun day exploring Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, and we were ready to rest up for another exciting day onboard Disney Destiny.

Day 4: Castaway Cay

Our first port of call was Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Bahamas. We enjoyed a delicious beachside lunch and explored the island's offerings, including snorkeling, bike rentals, and character meet-and-greets. Castaway Cay has endless fun for kids (and kids at heart)! This was our third visit, and somehow, it still wasn’t enough time to experience everything this incredible island has to offer. We did, however, make sure to save a little energy—because tonight was Pirate Night, and that’s one party we never want to miss!

Natural Sounds of Castaway Cay

Top Attractions & Activities at Castaway Cay

  • Private Cabanas: Enhance your beach day by reserving a private cabana. These come equipped with amenities like a stocked refrigerator, fresh water shower, hammock, and snorkeling gear. Availability is limited, so early booking is essential.

  • Snorkeling Lagoon: Explore the underwater world at the Snorkel Lagoon, where you can discover sunken treasures and vibrant marine life.

  • Bike Rentals: Rent bikes to traverse the island's scenic trails. Options include bikes with child seats or training wheels, making it a family-friendly activity.

Pirate Night on Disney Destiny

After an incredible day at Disney Castaway Cay, we headed back to Disney Destiny to get ready for one of the most exciting nights of the cruise: Pirate Night.

Pirate Night is one of the most iconic Disney Cruise Line experiences and something so many guests look forward to during their sailing. Throughout the evening, the entire ship transforms into a pirate-themed celebration complete with themed entertainment, special menu items, music, dancing, and character appearances.

Many guests dressed in pirate outfits, and Disney Cruise Line even provides complimentary pirate bandanas for everyone in your stateroom.

Pirate Night on a Disney Cruise

Dinner that evening featured a special Pirate Night menu along with a fun atmosphere throughout the restaurant. After dinner, the entertainment moved up to the pool deck where guests gathered for the nighttime pirate deck party.

The energy onboard was incredible with music, performances, and Disney characters appearing in their pirate costumes.

The highlight of the night was, of course, the Pirate Night fireworks at sea.

Disney Cruise Line is one of the only cruise lines in the world to offer fireworks at sea, and watching the fireworks launch above the ocean from the upper decks of Disney Destiny was absolutely unforgettable.

It was the perfect ending to an amazing day at Castaway Cay.

Day 5: Sea Day on Disney Destiny

After several busy port days, it was finally time for a relaxing day at sea aboard Disney Destiny.

Sea days are honestly one of our favorite parts of any Disney Cruise Line vacation because they give you the chance to slow down, fully explore the ship, and enjoy all the onboard experiences you may have missed earlier in the cruise.

Room Service Breakfast and Mickey Waffles on Disney Destiny

We started our sea day by ordering room service breakfast to our stateroom.

One important thing to know about Disney Cruise Line room service is that you need to place your breakfast order card outside your stateroom door the night before. Your stateroom host will leave the breakfast menu card in your room during evening turndown service.

We loved starting the morning slowly with coffee and breakfast in the room while enjoying the ocean views from our verandah.

But we definitely were not going to skip Marceline Market because this was the morning they were serving Mickey waffles.

So after our light room service breakfast, we headed up to Marceline Market for a second breakfast and officially kicked off our sea day with one of the most iconic Disney Cruise Line breakfast items. The Mickey waffles were absolutely worth it.

Morning at Cove Café

After breakfast, we headed to Cove Café, the adults-only coffee shop onboard Disney Destiny.

Cove Café quickly became one of our favorite quiet spots on the ship. It is the perfect place to grab specialty coffee, relax with ocean views, and enjoy a slower pace away from the busy pool deck areas.

Relaxing at the Rainforest Room in Senses Spa

One of the highlights of our sea day was spending a few luxurious hours in the Rainforest Room at Senses Spa.

The Rainforest Room is Disney Cruise Line’s thermal spa experience designed for relaxation and wellness. This adults-only area includes heated loungers, aromatherapy steam rooms, dry saunas, sensory showers, and beautiful ocean-view relaxation spaces.

One of the best features onboard Disney Destiny is the outdoor section of the Rainforest Room, which includes whirlpool hot tubs overlooking the ocean. It truly feels peaceful and relaxing compared to the more active pool deck areas.

If you are looking for a quieter adults-only experience onboard Disney Cruise Line, the Rainforest Room is absolutely worth considering.

Rainforest Room Overview on Disney Destiny

Hero Zone and The Incredibles Obstacle Course

While we were enjoying the spa, the kids were having an amazing time at Hero Zone.

Hero Zone is Disney Destiny’s indoor sports and activity space featuring games, family activities, and interactive experiences throughout the cruise.

During our sailing, they had an inflatable Incredibles-themed obstacle course set up and the kids absolutely loved it. It quickly became one of their favorite activities onboard the ship.

First-Run Disney Movies at Sea

One thing we always love about Disney Cruise Line is the opportunity to watch first-run Disney movies onboard.

During our sea day, we spent some time exploring the smaller onboard theaters that continuously show Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars films throughout the cruise.

It is such a fun way to relax between activities, especially on a sea day.

Adult Hot Tub Time

We also spent time relaxing in the adults-only hot tubs onboard Disney Destiny.

The adults-only areas on Disney Cruise Line are such a nice escape during sea days, especially when the family pool areas become more crowded.

Riding the AquaMouse on Disney Destiny

Of course, no sea day on Disney Destiny would be complete without riding the AquaMouse.

The AquaMouse is Disney Cruise Line’s signature water attraction that combines a traditional water coaster with immersive Disney storytelling, lighting effects, music, and animated scenes.

Guests ride inflatable rafts through winding water tubes high above the upper decks of the ship while experiencing themed show scenes along the way. It is one of the most popular attractions onboard Disney Destiny and was so much fun for both kids and adults.

Dinner at Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King

Tonight’s rotational dining experience was Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King.

This restaurant was absolutely beautiful and quickly became one of our favorite dining experiences of the cruise. The atmosphere, live entertainment, music, and menu selections were all incredible.

Everything we ordered was delicious and the entire experience felt immersive from beginning to end.

Hercules Stage Show on Disney Destiny

After dinner, we headed to the theater to watch Disney Hercules.

Disney Cruise Line did an amazing job bringing Hercules to life on stage with incredible costumes, music, puppetry, lighting effects, and high-energy performances.

The show combined classic songs from the animated movie with Broadway-level production quality and creative storytelling. The Muses were especially fantastic and brought so much energy to the performance.

It was definitely one of the entertainment highlights of our Disney Destiny cruise.

Disney Cruise Line Express Walkoff Explained

Before heading to bed, we made one important decision for debarkation morning: we chose not to leave our luggage outside our stateroom door.

Instead, we decided to participate in Express Walkoff because we had an early flight home the next day.

Express Walkoff allows guests to carry all of their own luggage off the ship first thing in the morning rather than placing bags outside the stateroom the night before for Disney Cruise Line luggage assistance.

This option is great for guests with early flights because it allows you to leave the ship much earlier and move through the terminal more quickly after debarkation.

After one final evening onboard Disney Destiny, we headed back to our stateroom for our last night at sea before heading home the next morning.

Day 6: Farewell to Destiny

Sadly, the final morning of our Disney Destiny cruise had arrived.

Even though debarkation day is never our favorite part of the trip, Disney Cruise Line made the process incredibly smooth and easy, especially since we decided to use Express Walkoff.

Breakfast at Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King

We woke up early and headed back to Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King for one final sit-down breakfast onboard Disney Destiny.

It was such a relaxing way to end the cruise. The breakfast was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and it gave us one last chance to enjoy the incredible dining experience onboard before heading home.

Since we were participating in Express Walkoff, we brought all of our luggage with us to breakfast and simply left our suitcases outside the dining room entrance while we ate.

Disney Cruise Line Express Walkoff Process

Express Walkoff ended up being extremely easy and convenient.

Once we finished breakfast, we simply followed the signs off the ship, went through the terminal, and headed directly to the rideshare pickup area at Port Everglades.

The entire debarkation process moved very quickly.

Lyft from Port Everglades to Fort Lauderdale Airport

After leaving the terminal, we requested a Lyft to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The ride took about 15 minutes and cost around $28 total, making it a very easy transfer from the cruise port to the airport.

Once we arrived at the airport, we relaxed and reflected on what an incredible Disney Cruise Line vacation it had been before catching our flight home.

Final Thoughts on Disney Destiny

Our sailing aboard Disney Destiny was truly unforgettable.

From the incredible entertainment and immersive theming to the beautiful staterooms, amazing dining, Broadway-style shows, private island stops at Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, and outstanding Disney service, this cruise exceeded our expectations in so many ways.

Disney Destiny feels both exciting and relaxing at the same time, with so many details throughout the ship that make the experience feel magical from beginning to end.

Some of our favorite parts of the cruise included:

  • The Rainforest Room at Senses Spa

  • Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King

  • Worlds of Marvel dining

  • Watching Hercules in the Walt Disney Theatre

  • Pirate Night fireworks at sea

  • Relaxing beach days at Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay

  • Riding the AquaMouse

  • Exploring all the incredible details throughout the ship

If you are considering booking Disney Destiny, we would absolutely recommend it for families, Disney fans, and anyone looking for a premium family cruise experience with incredible entertainment and service.

We already cannot wait for our next Disney Cruise Line vacation.
