Glamping Dreams & Desert Views: Our Stay at Under Canvas Lake Powell - Grand Staircase

If you’ve ever dreamed of sleeping under the stars in style, Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase is pure magic. Located just outside Page, Arizona, this luxury glamping resort combines stunning desert views, family-friendly comfort, and a true sense of adventure.

After a few unforgettable days in Zion, we packed up and headed east for a 2-hour drive to Lake Powell, ready for a day of sunshine and adventure on the water. We went straight to Wahweap Boat Rentals, where we rented a 19-ft powerboat for the day ($520, plus about $75 for gas). It was our first time ever driving a boat, and it was an absolute blast!

We packed lunch and brought it onboard — cruising across the sparkling blue water, stopping to swim, and exploring hidden coves. Lake Powell is massive and full of winding canyons to discover, so it’s easy to lose track of time while exploring. Before we knew it, the sun was starting to dip, and we reluctantly headed back to shore after one of our favorite days of the trip.

After an incredible afternoon of boating and swimming, we drove just 20 minutes to Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase, a luxury glamping resort that completely blew us away. This Arizona glamping resort was one of the highlights of our entire trip. We stayed in Suite Tent #5 (highly recommend!) — a spacious setup with a king bed, a private bathroom, a cozy fire stove, and a front porch overlooking the stunning desert landscape. It was the perfect blend of comfort and adventure, and we instantly felt relaxed.

That evening, we grabbed dinner at the main tent and then settled by the fire, taking in the jaw-dropping views of the Grand Staircase. As the sky turned pink and orange, we joined other families for community games, sipped on some incredibly delicious Meadow tea from Steven Smith Teamaker, and complimentary s’mores. It felt like one of those nights you want to bottle up and keep forever — laughter, stars, and the soft crackle of the campfire.

We all slept soundly in our family tent that night. The team provides earplugs since the wind can make the canvas flutter, but thankfully it stayed calm. Around 2 a.m., my more adventurous son and I quietly slipped outside to look at the stars. The night was perfectly clear, and even though the bright moon dimmed some of the starlight, it was a beautiful, peaceful moment — just us, the desert, and the quiet of the night sky.

The next morning, we enjoyed delicious coffee and breakfast in the main tent, soaking in the view one last time before heading off to Sedona for the next part of our Arizona adventure.

Under Canvas Lake Powell truly captured everything I love about travel — connection, nature, comfort, and the joy of discovering something new. It’s a place I’d return to in a heartbeat!
